We are currently supporting a well-established and highly respected 24-hour veterinary hospital on the Essex-London borders in their search for a Registered Veterinary Nurse who truly thrives in the theatre environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an RVN who enjoys the pace, precision, and teamwork involved in surgical nursing and would love to develop further within orthopaedics.
This full-time role (40 hours per week) would suit a nurse who feels most confident in theatre and enjoys being closely involved in surgical procedures, particularly orthopaedic cases. You will work closely alongside an experienced orthopaedic surgeon, sharing the same shift patterns to help create a seamless and efficient patient journey from admission through to recovery. When orthopaedic cases are not scheduled, you will continue to support other theatre procedures, remaining a key part of the surgical team.
The role would suit an RVN with a genuine interest in orthopaedics and surgical nursing. Previous orthopaedic experience is welcomed but not essential, as training and support will be provided to help you build your confidence and knowledge where needed. For nurses who have always felt that theatre is where they do their best work, this role offers the chance to develop a real specialism.
The hospital itself offers exceptional clinical support and facilities. The team benefits from advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities including CT imaging, an in-house commercial laboratory, and a strong multidisciplinary team. Advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgeries are performed on-site, giving nurses exposure to a varied and interesting caseload.
You will be joining a large and collaborative hospital team consisting of around 24 veterinary surgeons, 27 registered veterinary nurses, 14 student nurses, 7 veterinary care assistants, and a dedicated front-of-house team who play an essential role in delivering excellent client care. It is a busy but supportive environment where teamwork and communication are central to the day-to-day running of the hospital.
As one of the largest hospitals within the wider veterinary group, there are excellent opportunities for ongoing training and internal progression. Many nurses within the team have progressed into senior, deputy, and head nurse roles, and development is actively encouraged.
The rota for this role includes an average 1 in 4 weekend commitment with time off in lieu, up to three bank holidays per year, and a last-resort on-call rotation. The schedule is designed to ensure continuity with the orthopaedic surgeon while also maintaining balance for the wider team.
The salary range for this role is between £32,000 and £35,000 depending on experience, with room for growth and progression within the position.
The wider benefits package includes 6.6 weeks of annual leave including bank holidays, an annual CPD allowance with up to two days of paid CPD leave, paid 30-minute lunch breaks, and access to a private medical healthcare scheme at a reduced rate along with medical cashback incentives.
This is a brilliant opportunity for an RVN who wants to deepen their surgical nursing expertise, work with advanced surgical equipment and experienced clinicians, and be part of a hospital team that genuinely supports professional growth and development.
