A large and well-established veterinary hospital on the London/Essex borders is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in Internal Medicine to join its experienced medical team.
This role is ideal for a vet who has completed, or is currently working towards, an Internal Medicine certificate and is keen to focus on investigative and diagnostic work. The hospital sees a high volume of ultrasound and endoscopy cases, so previous experience or a strong interest in these areas would be beneficial.
The Role
As part of the hospital team, you'll play an important role in delivering high standards of evidence-based clinical carewhile supporting complex medical case workups.
Responsibilities include:
  • Consulting and participating in the hospital medical rota
  • Carrying out thorough examinations and creating evidence-based treatment plans
  • Investigating cases using radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and laboratory diagnostics
  • Prescribing and dispensing medications in line with RCVS and current medicines legislation
  • Maintaining compliance with RCVS Codes of Conduct and Practice Standards
  • Communicating clearly with clients with a client-centred approach
  • Working independently while recognising when collaboration or support is required
  • Contributing to a positive, collaborative team culture and strong clinical standards
The Hospital
The hospital provides first opinion, emergency, critical care and referral services to its own clients and a network of 20+ branch practices.
Facilities include:
  • CT scanner
  • Commercial in-house laboratory
  • Advanced diagnostic imaging and endoscopy equipment
  • Experienced surgeons performing advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive surgery
You'll be part of a large, supportive team, including:
  • ~25 Veterinary Surgeons
  • 27 RVNs
  • 14 Student Veterinary Nurses
  • 7 Veterinary Care Assistants
  • A dedicated front-of-house team
The team is supported by an established leadership structure including a senior internal medicine vet, senior RVNs, deputy head nurses, head nurse, head vet and hospital manager.
The Rota
  • 40 hours per week on average
  • 4-day week
  • 1 in 3 Saturdays
  • 1 in 6 Sundays
  • Up to 2 bank holidays per year
  • Participation in a last-resort on-call rota approximately every 2 weeks
Salary & Benefits
  • £55,000 - £73,000 salary depending on experience
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays
  • £2,000 CPD allowance plus 5 days paid CPD leave

Public transport access is excellent, though on-site parking is not available, so commuting by train or bus is recommended.
