A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a veterinary surgeon to join a well-established, independent hospital in Bedfordshire. This senior GP role is ideal for someone seeking meaningful clinical progression within a supportive and forward-thinking hospital environment.
The clinic—a purpose-built facility located in the historic county town—is open 24/7 and runs as an accredited Small Animal Veterinary Hospital. You'll be part of a team of around 50 colleagues across multiple sites, all dedicated to delivering compassionate, high‑quality care to a varied caseload that includes exotics as well as more traditional small animals
This practice takes immense pride in being dogma‑free. They commit to continuity of care, meaning you'll follow cases from admission through to discharge without rotating handovers—something rare in emergency settings, and highly valued by both clients and clinicians
Working hours are flexible—full‑time or part‑time options are available, typically three to five days per week depending on your preferences. Annual leave starts at 28 days (including bank holidays), with additional holiday accrued for every two years of service, up to a maximum of five extra days
The role comes with a comprehensive benefits package:
  • A salary ranging from approximately £36,500 up to £70,000+ depending on experience
  • VDS cover, RCVS registration fees paid
  • An assigned VetGDP mentor for newly qualified vets
  • CPD allowance of up to £1,500 per year (pro rata) plus five days paid CPD leave
  • Bonus incentive of £2,000 for candidates applying directly, not through agencies
  • Pension scheme, enhanced parental leave, and staff wellness perks (e.g. gym and pet insurance contributions)
The atmosphere is professional yet relaxed: colleagues describe the workplace as compassionate, social and collaborative, with optional social events such as rounders, baking competitions and seasonal celebrations. That same friendly energy carries into clinical work, where the focus is strong on team support and shared decision-making
Clinically, you'll benefit from access to advanced diagnostics including ultrasound, digital X-ray, endoscopy, ECG, echo, cardiology, and an in‑house lab with rapid turnaround. The hospital also features two operating theatres, separate wards for dogs, cats, exotics and isolation, plus hydrotherapy facilities and specialised monitoring equipment
This practice is also a recognised nurse training practice and offers strong development pathways for vets at all stages of their careers, including certificate-level qualifications in areas such as cardiology, diagnostic imaging and small animal medicine
If you're driven to provide the highest standards of veterinary care, keen to grow clinically, and seeking to work in a genuinely supportive and well‑resourced hospital environment in Bedfordshire—this could be your ideal next step.
