Vetmatch is delighted to be supporting a well-established veterinary surgery in Greater London in the search for a Head Veterinary Surgeon to lead and inspire their dedicated clinical team. This is a key leadership role suited to a confident, strategically minded vet who thrives in a hands-on environment and is passionate about shaping clinical excellence.
The successful candidate will join a forward-thinking practice that is actively committed to gold-standard, evidence-based veterinary care. With a strong emphasis on mentorship and professional development, this role offers the opportunity to lead by example, upskill a talented team of clinicians, and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and reputation of the practice. The current team includes a Senior Vet, four Veterinary Surgeons, and six Registered Veterinary Nurses, with a case mix covering orthopaedics, exotic medicine, and BOAS surgery. With a balanced 50/50 dog and cat caseload, the practice also offers a strong platform for vets with a particular interest in feline medicine.
The role involves a four-day working week with a 1 in 4 weekend rota. While there is no out-of-hours requirement, the Head Vet will need to be available for inpatient support where necessary. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire and coach others, while working closely with the surgery’s wider leadership team to align clinical goals with strategic priorities.
A comprehensive and competitive benefits package is offered, including a salary of £75,000 to £90,000 depending on experience. Additional benefits include funded memberships, CPD allowance, internal leadership training, 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, quarterly recognition payments, enhanced parental leave, income protection, employee wellbeing support, and access to a range of discounts and rewards. An electric car scheme is also available.
This role presents a unique opportunity to join a modern, purpose-built practice within the UK’s largest independent veterinary group. The environment is collaborative, spacious, and well-resourced, with a strong commitment to clinical development and staff wellbeing. This is a chance to make a genuine impact, leading a supportive team in delivering outstanding care to patients and clients alike across the community.
