This proudly independent veterinary hospital in rural Oxfordshire is looking for an experienced Small Animal Night Veterinary Surgeon to join its established overnight team.
This is a particularly attractive option for a vet who enjoys working autonomously, is confident making clinical decisions overnight and wants a rota that gives you plenty of time away from work.
You'll be part of a dedicated Night Vet and Nurse team providing 24-hour care for the practice's own clients. The focus is on continuity of care, manageable caseloads and giving you the clinical freedom to make decisions for your patients overnight.
Your shift runs from 6pm to 8am, starting with a handover before moving into evening consultations, ward rounds and inpatient checks.
 
Overnight, you'll be responsible for:
  • Providing care for hospitalised small animal patients
  • Managing emergency cases for existing clients
  • Carrying out evening consultations, ward rounds and regular patient checks
  • Monitoring and discharging patients where appropriate
  • Working closely with the experienced Night Nurse Team
  • Maintaining clear clinical records and handovers
  • Preparing patients and the hospital for the day team
You'll be working sole charge overnight, with the wider clinical team available when additional support is needed.
The practice has chosen to maintain its own overnight service, meaning you'll be caring for existing clients and patients rather than working through a high-volume external emergency service. You'll have clinical autonomy, an experienced Night Nurse alongside you and a clear handover process between the night and day teams.
 
Role requirements:
  • At least 3 years' UK small animal veterinary experience, ideally including night work
  • Right to work in the UK as visa sponsorship is not available
  • RCVS registration
  • Confidence working sole charge overnight
  • Experience managing inpatients and emergency cases
  • Strong clinical judgement and organisation
  • A calm and compassionate approach to client communication
  • The ability to work independently while remaining part of the wider team
  • Your own transport, due to the rural location
